The xP column is the whole point. A captain doubles whatever the player scores, so the question is not "who is in form" but "whose expected return is highest this week". Fixture and ownership are shown beside it because the two things that change a captain decision are how easy the game is and how much of the field already owns him.
Captain a player who is certain to start over one who might be rested, even at a lower projection. A benched captain scores nothing and the armband falls to your vice-captain, who is usually a much smaller score. Rotation risk destroys more captaincies than bad fixtures do.
Expected points are not FPL's ep_next field, which is floored at 1.0 and capped near 4.0 and cannot rank players. Dugout builds them from a venue-split Poisson model of every fixture — separate home and away scoring records for each club — then splits each club's expected goals and assists between its players and scores the result with FPL's real 2026/27 rules: goals by position, assists, clean sheets, goals conceded, saves, penalty duty, defensive contribution points and an estimate of bonus. Everything is weighted by expected minutes. Newly promoted clubs have no Premier League data, so their players are estimated and should be treated with caution. These are predictions, not forecasts.
